Hua Hin reopening made possible after vaccination target reached

The planned reopening of Hua Hin to foreign tourists from October 1 has been made possible after Hua Hin reached its COVID-19 vaccination target.

Officials had said that 70 percent of the local population of Hua Hin would need to be vaccinated if the October 1 reopening was to go ahead.

Earlier this week, Dr. Suriya Kuharat, Provincial Public Health Medical Doctor to Prachaub Khiri Khan said, “As of 5th September 2021, Hua Hin has received 90,390 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine with 66,558 people being vaccinated”.

“This achievement covers 73% of the target population. The vaccines have been provided by the ministry of Public Health, along with the 50,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine purchased by Hua Hin Municipality and 5,000 doses by donation.

He continued, “The Prachuab Khiri Khan Province has received 283,985 doses and vaccinated 197,239 residents, covering 45.8% of population aged 18 and above. As seen by the numbers, although Hua Hin has achieved the target and continued vaccination, it remains that the whole province requires vaccines to create herd immunity for the broader population.”

But officials are confident that Prachuap Khiri Khan province will also achieve its vaccination target before October 1.

As of Saturday Sept 11, a total of 312,889 vaccine doses had been administered throughout the province. Of those 97,606 people are fully vaccinated, while 5,664 people have also received a third booster jab.

Even the vaccination of expats in Hua Hin has gathered pace in recent weeks.

Since the start of September, expats in Hua Hin who registered to receive a vaccine via the Expat Vac registration platform have begun to receive the Pfizer vaccine.

The vaccines, which are administered at Bangkok Hospital Hua Hin, have been given to more than 800 foreigners in Hua Hin, with more appointments scheduled to start on September 14.

Meanwhile, Hua Hin Hospital has announced that people who received a first dose of the vaccine in Bangkok can now arrange to have their second jab in Hua Hin rather than having to travel to the capital.
